Spark Arrestors and Chalwyn Valves
Agriemach are able to offer an extensive range of universal Spark Arrestors and Chalwyn Valves globally and for a variety of applications and engine sizes. You can feel safe in the knowledge that our Supertrapp spark arrestors are approved by the ministry of defence and for added reassurance; all of our Chalwyn Valves and Spark Arrestors are also supplied with a Certificate of Conformity. The environment and air quality are extremely important to Agriemach and we are committed to supplying top of the range products to help protect our environment.
Spark arrestors perform spark arrest and silencing for all internal combustion engines. They are engineered to specifically prevent the threat of fire to surounding combustible materials, liquids or gasses as a result of spark emission from the exhausts of internal combustion engines. Spark arrestors for diesel engines are essential as they are at higher risk of producing sparks than some other types of engines. This is because carbon deposits can build up and easily be ignited. The oxygen in the exhaust aids the ignition of the partially burnt carbon particles which are then discharged as sparks.
The exhaust spark arrestor works by trapping the carbon particles in the exhaust system, therefore preventing the emission of flammable debris. The live carbon particles are thrust against the internal walls of the spark arrester at a high velocity and are forced into a trap. This is accomplished by an arrangement of fixed discs that channel the exhaust gases into a circular motion as it enters the spark arrester. The live carbon particles are trapped within the spark arrester, whilst the gases are directed into the atmosphere through the outlet. Once the live particles are burnt they are rendered inert and are no longer a threat.
Not only is it good practise to fit spark arrestors, it is also a major health and safety requirement. Practically all legalisation with regards to the operation of a diesel engine in hazardous areas states an obligatory requirement to fit a tested and approved exhaust spark arrestor.
Agriemach offer a complete range of Supertrapp Spark Arrestors. They are multi-position rated, quiet, compact, very simple to assemble and extremely easy to install.
What makes the SuperTrapp exhaust spark arrestor a leader in its industry is its unique diffuser disc technology. The exhaust outlet of the Supertrapp Spark Arrestor is created by placing individual diffuser discs to form a series of circular openings. The way the discs are spaced enables the sparks and noise to be intercepted without compromising the exhaust flow. Different engine sizes will require different number of discs.
Agriemach also offer a vast range of Air intake shutdown valves (often referred to as AISV, ASOV or Emergency Shutdown valves, ESD) and systems for emergency overspeed shutdown for diesel engines.
Air intake shutdown valves deprive the engine of oxygen in the possible event where an uncontrolled fuel source enters the engine, providing more fuel than required and resulting in uncontrollable engine overspeed. Stopping the engine at this point by simply switching off the main fuel supply may not be possible due to the unauthorised fuel it is receiving. This can lead to dangerous mechanical failure as well as flash back from the combustion of the surrounding gas or vapor. This is why it is imperative that an air intake shutdown valve is fitted to ensure a quick and safe engine shutdown in this circumstance.
At Agriemach we pride ourselves on being able to provide quality products and practical value-led solutions to our customers. Chalwyn is a well know, trusted and leading provider of Air intake shutdown valves, offering over 35 years of Overspeed Safety Solutions. This is why Agriemach have chosen to offer Chalwyn valves as a solution to emergency overspeed shutdown for diesel engines.
Chalwyn valves are self-contained with flow actuated overspeed shutdown. Installation is extremely quick and easy as they require no external electrical or mechanical input devices.
The Chalwyn valve works by starving the engine of oxygen. If the engine speed increases past the pre-set point the valve begins to close. It will totally close and completely block off the air intake in order to starve the engine from any further oxygen required for combustion.
To create a quick turnaround after the engine has shutdown the valve automatically re-opens after the engine has stopped. As soon as the valve has re-opened the engine is ready for re-starting.
As mentioned above you are able to pre-program a preferred set point where the Chalwyn valve will initiate air intake shutdown. This is set during installation and is very simple to do.
